Register for OAN Annual Convention

Come to the beach to celebrate a great year at the OAN Convention, Friday–Saturday, November 3–4 at Salishan Spa & Golf Resort in Gleneden Beach, Oregon.

This year's theme is "Feelin' Good Vibrations." Join your fellow OAN members for a beach party blast. Enjoy social time with old and new friends, talk about the issues that are vital to Oregon nurseries, vote on revisions to the OAN bylaws, and honor the industry's achievers at the annual President's Awards Banquet. Bring your family – complimentary (and fun!) child care will be provided.

The fun schedule includes Friday night Hospitality Suites, the Saturday annual meeting (with continental breakfast before and lunch after), and the President's Awards Banquet that evening. All events and meals are free except the banquet, which is $69 per person for dinner.

All attendees must register at www.oan.org/convention.

For lodging, contact Salishan Spa & Golf Resort at 800-425-2300 and mention the OAN Convention to receive special rates starting at $135/night. You can also get those rates at www.salishan.com. Simply click on "check availability," fill in the group code (OAN 17), and click on "check availability" again. Rates good until October 13 or when room block is full.

Please be SAFE when working near power lines

The Oregon Public Utility Commission (PUC) is working in partnership with Idaho Power, Pacific Power and Portland General Electric — the three major regulated electric utility service providers in Oregon — to remind the agricultural community of important tips to ensure they stay SAFE when working near power lines.

Those working in the agricultural industry are reminded to stay SAFE:

  • Scan the area – always look around and look up to check for power lines and other potential hazards before starting work.
  • Avoid extending farm equipment, including irrigation pipes, within 10 feet of overhead power lines. Keep in mind that overhead lines can be as low as 18 feet off the ground, so always carry irrigation pipes, which are 30-40 feet long, horizontally. If required to tip up to discharge water or dirt build-up, scan for power lines overhead.
  • Frequently re-evaluate the area for changing safety hazards.
  • Educate fellow employees to ensure safety throughout the agricultural community.

"Serious injury or fatal electrocution can occur if farm equipment, including irrigation pipes, gets too close or accidentally touches a live power line," said Lori Koho, PUC Utility Safety and Reliability Administrator.
