Dennis' 7 Dees's sixth-annual Charity Golf Tournament raised more than $100,000 for Human Solutions, a nonprofit organization assisting homeless and low-income families in east Portland and Multnomah County. To date, Dennis' 7 Dees has raised more than $250,000 for the organization.
Proceeds from this year's fundraiser, held this past Thursday, Sept. 18, at Langdon Farms Golf Club in Aurora, Oregon, will be put to immediate use.
"There is so work much to do at Human Solutions that needs immediate funding," Dave Snodgrass, president of Dennis' 7 Dees Landscaping and Garden Centers, said. Staffing and supplies for a new 120-bed family winter shelter need to be ready on November 1 when the emergency winter shelter opens. The money raised at this year's golf tournament will ensure that the family winter shelter can stay open until the end of April 2015.
"There is a huge shortage of shelter and housing throughout the tri-county area," Jean DeMaster, executive director of Human Solutions, said. "The weather is growing colder and the rain will soon start. During this time, the number of homeless families seeking shelter always increases. We are so grateful to the staff at Dennis' 7 Dees — particularly the Snodgrass brothers, Dave, Dean and Drew — for recognizing the plight of these homeless families and doing something about it."
