2008 Oregon Nursery and Greenhouse Survey

The data below was compiled by the Oregon Agricultural Statistics Service.

Gross (wholesale) Sales: $820 million in 2008, down 17% over 2007. The first annual decline in sales since the survey began in 1990.

Employees: 21,000 full- and part-time (2007 figures).

Wages: $345,000,000 (2007).

Production: 2,030 nursery/greenhouse operations with 53,700 acres in production (2007 data).

Destinations: Approximately 75% of all nursery and greenhouse stock grown in Oregon is sold out of state. The Northeast (13%), Upper Midwest (18.7%), Atlantic States (8.5%), and Washington state (10%) are the biggest out-of-state buyers.

Gross Sales by Plant Material: Container $406.3 million, Bareroot $140.4 million, Balled & Burlapped $110.8 million, Greenhouse $124.9 million, Other $37.6 million.
