Welcome to the Oregon Association of Nurseries weekly Member Update
November 15, 2012

Membership renewal statements arriving this week

The Oregon Association of Nurseries works hard to provide you with exceptional value for your membership dollar. Members get exclusive new ways to save money, defense against unfair regulation, targeted and valuable exposure opportunities, and a chance to come together for fun and learning like nowhere else. Your membership renewal statement will arrive in the mail this week or you can renew online. Please continue to support the organization that supports you. If you complete your renewal now, you'll save money by getting this year's membership rate. Plus you'll have one less thing on your to-do list as the holidays approach.

Retailers: a few ad spaces are available in the Nurseries and Garden Centers Guide

The new OAN Nurseries and Garden Centers Guide, coming in February, gives plant lovers a handy map and directory so they can explore retailers, landscapers and service providers to discover exactly what they want. Some 30,000 copies will be distributed in 2013. As a retailer or landscaper member of OAN, your listing is free. A paid, full-color display ad boosts your visibility and helps you stand out from the crowd. Limited spaces are still available. Contact Chris Sweet at 503-582-2012 or csweet@oan.org to claim your space.

Many thanks and congratulations to Kathy Hight

The OAN wishes a fond farewell to OAN Director of Finance and Administration Kathy Hight, who has departed the organization for a new job with OAN member Marion Ag. Hight joined OAN in the summer of 2009 and has helped ensure that OAN continues to deliver value for members as efficiently as possible. Her last day was Friday, and we already miss her. Candidates for her former position are currently being interviewed. We hope to have a replacement on board by December.

Free pesticide and waste collection event coming in Washington County

The deadline is Monday, Nov. 26 to sign up for a free, safe and anonymous pesticide, agricultural waste and empty container collection event to be held in Washington County. The event will be from 8 a.m.–2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1 at Crop Production Services, 574 N. Seventh Court, Cornelius, Ore. Advance registration is required for any chemicals, so the site is prepared to receive the materials, but the registration is anonymous. The event is organized by the Tualatin Soil and Water Conservation District.

OAN Safety Tip: Safe attitudes make a difference

The right attitude is one of the keys to a safe working environment. Workers can fall into unsafe habits unless they are encouraged to focus on safety and take responsibility for it. Here is a flyer containing several helpful tips that can be posted in your workplace: English | Spanish
