- Plant pests and diseases: Adoption of a strategic plan
Nursery Inspection and Regulation After 2007 (PDF)
This paper provides brief background on the regulation of P. ramorum in the
nursery industry and proposes a conceptual framework for future regulation
of P. ramorum and other plant pests and diseases of concern.
The Pacific Northwest nursery and Christmas tree industries have created a comprehensive educational website about the plant disease caused by Phytophthora ramorum. P. ramorum is a fungus-like organism affecting susceptible trees and woody shrubs. This plant disease has commonly been referred to as Sudden Oak Death.
In order to ensure the health of the plant industry, science-based regulatory oversight is a vital component to the management of P. ramorum and the prevention, detection and eradication of the disease. Regulatory programs are managed at both state and federal levels. For more information on specific regulatory programs related to P. ramorum, please see the pramorum.org website.
