Stone speaks at news conference with Sen. Wyden
On Monday OAN Executive Director Jeff Stone joined Sen. Ron Wyden, ODA Director Katy Coba and other representatives of the state's agriculture industry in a news conference followed by a roundtable discussion on agricultural trade with Asian-Pacific nations and concerns about the current draft of the 2012 Farm Bill. "Oregon nursery growers export 74 percent of our product out of state, bring much needed dollars back home," Stone said at the news conference. "Senator Wyden understands the importance of the nursery industry and we applaud him for being an advocate for Oregon products to be shipped all over the world."
Sen. Wyden was a big player in the farm bill five years ago, helping to support specialty crop grants, as well as pest and disease priorities. At the roundtable, Sen. Wyden asked nurseries and wheat growers to create a bigger conversation and advise him on ways to improve the Farm Bill. "We stand ready to help Senator Wyden and Senator Merkley to pass a Farm Bill in the Senate," Stone responded. "We applaud the trade efforts that the senator promoted this morning, we appreciate his outreach to impacted sectors of agriculture, and we commit to him -- and to Oregon -- that we will work hard to support a farm bill that works for all of us."
