New Digger showcases Oregon Nursery Country

The January 2016 issue of Digger magazine includes profile articles on four top-notch Oregon nursery operations. The new issue also features a fresh new look for 2016, new content highlighting how "Plants Make Life Better" and revamped departments.

Free pesticide collection coming to Southwest Oregon

Attention: Growers in Southwest Oregon. The Medford Water Commission and the Pesticide Stewardship Partnership are sponsoring a FREE Pesticide Collection Event for agricultural, commercial and industrial users. Events will take place in Grants Pass on March 4 and in Medford on March 5.

Any farm or agricultural business that has old or unusable materials can take this opportunity to properly dispose of hazardous materials. Even if you don't know what the material is, it can still be brought in. Questions? Bailey Nurseries hires general manager, breeder for PII

Bailey Nurseries announced the hiring of David Roberts, general manager and breeder for Plant Introductions Inc. Roberts will manage day-to-day operations, lead breeding direction and coordinate breeding objectives for the company with Bailey Nurseries management and PII consultants Dr. Michael Dirr, Mark Griffith and Jeff Beasley. Roberts will be based at the Watkinsville, Georgia facility, which was acquired by Bailey Nurseries in 2015.

Roberts has a master's degree from North Carolina State University in horticultural science with a concentration in ornamental plant breeding. Roberts' work at PII will be focused on producing cultivars through research, genetic improvement and innovative hybridization.

"David is bringing great knowledge and energy to PII," Bailey Nurseries President Terri McEnaney said. "That strong combination of experience and enthusiasm expands the opportunity for PII to continue bringing top quality, groundbreaking genetics to market."



Anger management workshop to take place next week

An intensive, three-day anger management workshop for English speakers will take place Jan. 11–13 in Forest Grove, Oregon. The workshop is recommended for supervisors in the workplace, educators and social change advocates.

The workshop is presented by Adelante Mujeres, a non-profit organization that assists low-income Latina women. Titled ESPERE (Escuela de Perdón y Reconciliación—School of Forgiveness and Reconciliation), the program trains individuals to manage conflict with compassion and understanding that leads to healthy and violence-free relationships.

The classes will take place from 8 a.m.–6 p.m. and be held at the Adelante Mujeres office, located at 2036 Main Street, Suite A, Forest Grove. Cost is $150. For more information, contact Leocadia Montero-Hainley at lmontero@adelantemujeres.org or call 503-537-8562.
