Farm energy audits can help save energy costs
Farm energy audits can identify opportunities to reduce between 10–35 percent of total farm energy use. The audits, part of a program funded by the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), are designed to help farmers take greater control of their energy use and increase their energy independence.
In Oregon, the deadline for the first round of applications is Jan. 17. (The second cutoff date is March 21.) Funding is limited for 2014, so applicants are encouraged to apply earlier than later. Farmers can visit their local NRCS service center to sign up, or call EnSave at 800-732-1399 to learn more.

Members urged to contact representatives re: immigration
Several Republican members of the U.S. House of Representatives are circulating a letter asking their GOP colleagues to support immigration reform in 2014. Accordingly, AmericanHort and the OAN are urging nursery industry people to write their representatives, so they know the nursery industry has their backs. AmericanHort has provided a quick and easy online tool that automatically selects your correct representative based on zip code. You may use (or adapt) the sample letter, or write your own.
