2014 Yard, Garden & Patio Show a blooming success!
Attendees immersed themselves in the spectacular Showcase Gardens, perused booths of all categories, bought bushels of plants from the Remarkable Green Market, explored the Urban Edible Garden, and packed the seminar rooms to learn new tips and tricks.
The YGP is part of the OAN's effort to support the consumer market. Other such programs include the Plant Something initiative and the Retail Nurseries and Garden Centers Guide, which made its 2014 debut at the show.

Show your support for House Resolution 2575
Presently, the Affordable Care Act (ACA) defines "full-time worker" as any employee working 30 hours per week or more. Federal bill HR 2575 would change that to 40 hours per week or more. For businesses with more than 50 employees, this bill could be a big difference maker. It could alter the number of employees you are required to offer coverage and give you more flexibility and more options in managing your staffing needs. The bill is likely to be voted on this week in the house. The OAN is supporting it, along with AmericanHort, the successor organization to OFA and ANLA.

Willamette Chapter gives $5,000 to Chemeketa's horticulture program
The OAN's Willamette Chapter continued its support of Chemeketa Community College's horticulture program with the presentation of a $5,000 check on January 21. The money will go toward purchasing a pickup for use around the greenhouse.
Over the past three years, the chapter has donated a total of $15,000, which has helped procure tools and supplies, renovate old hoop houses, purchase overhead microbe sprinklers and fog systems, and more. Currently, about 40 full-time students are enrolled in the horticulture program. "The idea is to expose students to state-of-the-art equipment," said Val Tancredi, Willamette Chapter president. "We believe these students will be well trained for entry-level and advanced jobs with our nurseries."
