Oregon Legislature wraps up 2014 session
The 2014 Oregon Legislature was a mixed bag for the Oregon nursery industry, according to OAN Executive Director Jeff Stone. "It was up and down," he said. "We reached compromise on the pollinators issue, and we had a seat at the table in the important land use planning debate, but the effort failed to redraft the ballot title for the driver's card bill."
The bill was approved in the House, but failed in the Senate.
The Legislature meets for a long session in odd-numbered years, and a short session in even-numbered years. The short sessions are designed to tackle immediate matters, including year-to-year budgetary concerns. The 2014 session followed an extremely successful 2013 session for the industry.

In Memoriam: Jason Donovan
The Oregon Association of Nurseries is saddened to report the passing of Jason Donovan. He died Jan. 22, 2014 at the age of 46.
Donovan worked in the nursery industry for more than two decades. In 1991, he graduated from Oregon State University with a Bachelor of Science degree. He worked with Northwest Floriculture from 1992–1996, Baker West from 1997–2004, Van Meter & Son from 2004–2005, and most recently, Moana Nursery in Canby, Ore.
Jason was a caring father, son, brother, grandson, nephew and a friend to many. He always had a story to tell and a hard time to give Ducks fans. He enjoyed his OSU Beavers, hunting, fishing, snowskiing, playing basketball and spending time with his children.
He is survived by his daughter Raychyl and his son Cameron, his mother, father, step-father, brother and sister. The family will hold a private celebration of his life on March 16 in Portland, Ore.
