ODA suspends tree care company's license over bee deaths
The Oregon Department of Agriculture (ODA) announced the suspension of a commercial pesticide operator's license following an incident that has left an estimated 1,000 bees dead at a north Eugene apartment complex last week. The action taken against Glass Tree Care and Spray Service comes as ODA continues to investigate possible violations of the Oregon Pesticide Control Law. The company must comply with specific conditions before the license will be reinstated.

Last chance to join the Affordable Care Act Road Show
The last stop on OAN's Affordable Care Act Road Show is scheduled for today, Wednesday, June 25 at Woodburn Nursery & Azaleas in Woodburn, Oregon.
Like all previous stops, the meeting will feature a panel of experts in health insurance and employment law and will last from 1–4 p.m. The first hour will focus on employers with less than 50 employees. The second hour will focus on those with 50 employees if seasonal workers are included. The third hour will be geared towards those with 100 employees or more.
Panelists will include Jeff Stone of OAN, Heidi Mason of Jordan Ramis PC, Randy Skinner of Leonard Adams Insurance, Marisa O'Brien of Cover Oregon and Michelle Van Dellen of Moss Adams LLP.

Proven Winners offers scholarship program
Proven Winners announced a new $15,000 scholarship program that will aid students in three distinct areas of the horticulture industry:
- The Proven Winners Innovations in Plant Breeding Scholarship
- The Proven Winners Innovations in Horticultural Marketing Scholarship
- The Proven Winners Grower Excellence Scholarship
Each scholarship is worth $5,000. Students must be enrolled in a four-year university and be at least a sophomore during the 2014-2015 academic year. Master's degree and Ph.D. students are also eligible. Applicants must be enrolled in horticultural science or related fields, and they must hold a minimum GPA of 3.0. Applications are due by July 15.

Soil health for perennials workshop set for this Thursday, June 26
Make plans to attend the upcoming workshop on soil health, Unlock Secrets in the Soil for Perennial Crops, to be held from 9 a.m.–2 p.m. on Thursday, June 26, at the Mt. Hood National Forest Headquarters in Sandy, Oregon. The workshop is free and lunch is provided, but registration is required.

Her presentation, "The Elements of a Strong Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Program for Greenhouse and Ornamental Diseases," is designed for anyone who influences production decisions related to nursery and greenhouse production. The evening promises to be a great opportunity to learn about the most current approaches implemented by top growers.
