Farwest to unveil new show experience — The Solution Center for Growers

Organizers of the 2015 Farwest Show are introducing a brand-new attraction designed specifically for greenhouse and nursery growers — The Solution Center for Growers, sponsored by OBC Northwest Inc.

The center will serve as a learning program on the main show floor featuring free live mini-seminars, demonstrations and workshops. During more than 20 mini-sessions, top industry speakers and experts will present information and insight on specific grower-related topics, and growers will get to ask specific questions on how to achieve more efficient operations and increased profits.

"We're excited about the launch of The Solution Center for Growers," said Allan Niemi, director of events at the Oregon Association of Nurseries, producers of the Farwest Show. "Growers are going to get the insider's view to the hottest topics in production. It's a logical extension to our popular retail program and sure to be a mainstay in the future."

All Solution Center sessions are free to registered Farwest attendees. A complete schedule of topics and speakers can be seen at

Equipment Innovation Day brings out the big guns

About 100 Farwest attendees trekked to GK Machine Inc. in Donald, Oregon yesterday (August 25), to get an up-close look at some massive labor-saving machinery.

The second annual Equipment Innovation Day, held the Tuesday before the 2015 Farwest Show kicks off on Thursday, gave growers the opportunity to experience cutting-edge equipment in action and talk with some of the top equipment manufacturers who are enhancing production efficiency for the nursery and greenhouse industry.

"Seeing in-person what these machines can do is what everyone is here for," Ryan Basile, 2015 Farwest chairman, said. "This was a great start to this year's Farwest."

Reminder: Make sure P. ramorum paperwork is in order

Ahead of the busy Christmas tree shipping season, Oregon nurseries are reminded of the change that was made to the USDA Domestic Quarantine Regulatory requirements for shipping hosts of Phytophthora ramorum, the pathogen known to cause sudden oak death. Only those nurseries with a current valid USDA issued P. ramorum compliance agreement signed on or after March 31, 2014, are authorized to use the federal P. ramorum certification shield. All others should remove or line out the previously issued federal shield from their shipping paperwork or packaging.
