Invasive emerald ash borer attacking new host, researcher says
The emerald ash borer, which is destroying ash trees in a large swath of the nation, has apparently spread to a different tree, according to a report published by Entomology Today. Don Cipollini, professor of environmental sciences at Wright State University in Ohio, has found signs that the invasive green beetle has begun to attack white fringetree (Chionanthus virginicus).
"[Emerald ash borer] may have a wider host range than we ever thought in the first place, or it is adapting to utilize new hosts," Cipollini said. "This biological invasion is really something to worry about."

SAIF announces series of agricultural safety seminars
SAIF Corporation announced it will host 27 agricultural safety seminars between November 2014 and March 2015 in 16 cities around Oregon. The first seminar will take place from 9:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 5 in Burns, Oregon.
Attendance is free and open to anyone working in the agricultural industry. Small agricultural employers attending the seminar will meet one of the four requirements that exempt small agricultural establishments from random OSHA inspections.

List your garden center on Dr. A's mobile phone app
Renowned plantsman (and recent Farwest Trade Show presenter) Dr. Allan Armitage launched a consumer app, Armitage's Greatest Perennials and Annuals, last year. He is currently seeking garden centers to round out its list of "America's Greatest Garden Centers."
"The garden center portion of the app allows users to search by zip code, and the stores will be listed in alphabetical order by city or by which garden center is nearest to the user," Armitage said. Register today for First Aid and Adult CPR training classes
The OAN Safety and Insurance Committee is presenting First Aid and Adult CPR training classes in October, as a service to members and the industry.
Successful completion results in certification that is good for two years. Each class runs from 9 a.m.–3 p.m. Classes are offered in Hillsboro, Boring and Wilsonville. Some are taught in English and others in Spanish. Check the OAN website for specific dates and locations. The cost is $42 for first-time or expired certifications and $32 for renewals. Willamette Chapter to meet on Nov. 13
OAN's Willamette Chapter will hold a meeting from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on November 13. All OAN members are invited. The meeting will take place at the Wellspring Conference Center, 1475 Mt. Hood Ave., Woodburn.
