Immigration reform would boost economy, cut deficit

Passage of a comprehensive reform bill would boost the U.S. economy over the next 20 years and reduce the federal budget deficit, according to a new study by the Bipartisan Policy Center. The study was released Monday by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce as part of a coordinated reform push by the business community and business-friendly conservatives. These forces are hoping to move a bill between now and the end of the year.

President Obama met with House Republicans to discuss the matter on Monday. However, a comprehensive bill the Senate passed earlier in the year suffered a setback when Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) — a sponsor of the comprehensive bill — announced that he's now against a comprehensive approach and favors piecemeal bills instead.

The panelists will include Jeff Stone of OAN, Heidi Mason of the Jordan Ramis PC law firm, Randy Skinner of Leonard Adams Insurance, and Marsia O'Brien of Cover Oregon. Four identical sessions will be held at the following locations. All sessions shall run from 1–3 p.m.

OAN Safety Tip: Use caution when using chainsaws

Chainsaws can hurt people. Is using one part of your job? If so, please be safe. You need a properly maintained saw. You need the knowledge of how to use it. And you also need protective clothing — proper attire, hard hat, face shield, ear protection, boots and gloves. Download these Safety Tips in English (PDF) and Spanish (PDF) and share them with your employees and co-workers. These tips are compliments of Ohio State University, SAIF, and the OAN Safety and Insurance Committee.
