Ceremonial signing celebrates landmark water storage bill

Agricultural water users had reason to celebrate on Monday, as Gov. John Kitzhaber held a ceremonial signing ceremony for Senate Bill 839, which was passed earlier this summer. The bill sets up a water supply development fund that projects can tap into if they provide certain economic and environmental benefits. A coalition of water users, municipalities and conservation groups pushed for the bill, which is the first time such a fund has been created in Oregon. The bill passed unanimously in the House and 29-1 in the Senate. It was considered a win-win for everyone involved because it will enable greater water storage and supplies in future years when demand goes up, while at the same time protecting the environment.

"It always amazes me how much we can get accomplished when we all band together." Click here for more information on the tournament and how the money will be used. OAN Safety Tip: Protect yourself from carbon monoxide poisoning

Carbon dioxide is insidious, colorless, odorless, tasteless and deadly. CO is the product of internal combustion engines. If these types of engines are used in enclosed spaces or without adequate ventilation, carbon dioxide poisoning can be the result. CO poisoning can quickly lead to illness, unconsciousness, coma and death. You can learn to recognize the symptoms, but prevention is best of all. Just follow these tips, courtesy of OSHA and the OAN Safety and Insurance Committee [English | Spanish].
