Oregon Public Broadcasting examined the effort to pass House Bill 2015, the Equal Access to Roads Act.
The bill would create a driver’s license that Oregon residents could apply for if they are unable to prove legal residency in the United States, provided they can meet all other qualifications to drive. This license would not be Real ID compliant and would not allow the bearer to vote, serve on a jury or board a commercial airplane. OAN is backing the bill, along with Causa, the American Civil Liberties Union, Oregon Farm Bureau and farmworker unions.
The Joint Committee on Transportation has scheduled a work session on the bill for next Wednesday, May 22, in Hearing Room F at the Oregon State Capitol.
